Puppy Class

This is an introductory socialization and training class for puppies 2-9 months old. Basic obedience, such as sit, down, leash walking, drop it, leave it and come when called will be introduced. The class also covers managing puppy problem behaviors (jumping, counter surfing, mouthing, digging, house training, etc) and various aspects of socialization (introduction to new people and dogs, exposure to novel surfaces/wheeled objects/sounds and handling). No previous training is required.

Each hour long class will be followed by a 15 minute playgroup session which is included in the cost of the course. Owners will learn to monitor puppy play by learning dog body language and how to identify and interrupt bullying behaviors.

AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Class

This is our second level class open to pups who have completed our Puppy Class, or a comparable puppy class elsewhere. The 6 week course emphasizes responsible dog ownership and builds on the foundation obedience skills introduced in the previous class. New concepts such as mat work, polite greetings and door manners will be introduced. Puppies earn a medal and certificate upon meeting the AKC STAR Puppy Program requirements.

Community Puppy Class

The 4 week Community Puppy Class is all about getting out and exploring/building confidence in novel environments. This class is offered to pups less than 9 months old who have taken our Puppy Class or STAR Class and will cover basic obedience, engagement games and long line skills at various locations in the community. Required materials include a long line and treat pouch, which can be purchased at the first class. We also recommend a Mutt Mat. The first class will be held outside at Canine Body and Mind and you will receive the locations for the rest of the classes at that lesson, based on the season.

Puppy Private Lessons

Private Lessons are a great option for puppies who are waiting to join a group class but would like to get started on training or those who may be overwhelmed by group classes due to fear. anxiety or reactivity in that setting. After learning some basic skills these pups can progress to lessons with one other dog at a time or can join a group class.
